A black bow tie is nice, but an almost black bow tie is even cooler. Works with the same dignity and respect to dress codes but still has that twist. Dark navy is a great substitute to the black bow tie. Try it out with a beige blazer and a red and blue Tattersall shirt.
In terms of color, the "Dark Navy" looks a little bluer than in the photo: in daylight, it is recognizable as blue without having to hold black next to it. In subdued, reddish light, this is less noticeable. It is still bluer than the dark blue of dark blue tuxedos with a black collar, so it sets its own accent in this combination. The material is very easy to tie.
